Okuma OSP Alarm A 8563 - Inverter failure

Inverter failure

A grinder-related inverter has failed: code 1 flags the whetstone (grinding wheel) inverter, code 2 the dresser inverter. The control saw the inverter's fault signal and stopped to protect the motor and machine.

Common Causes

  • Whetstone inverter or dresser inverter internally failed (overload, overheat or power stage fault)
  • Inverter fault signal wiring broken or giving a false alarm

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Whetstone (grinding wheel) inverter faulty; code 2 = Dresser inverter faulty
  2. 2Read the code: 1 = whetstone inverter, 2 = dresser inverter, then go to that inverter in the electrical cabinet.
  3. 3Lock out and discharge the drive power before touching the inverter; then check its LEDs/display for the stored fault and inspect for burnt smell or tripped cooling.
  4. 4Check the inverter fault signal wiring back to the control for loose terminals before condemning the unit.
  5. 5Replace the faulty inverter as the manual directs, restore power and run the wheel or dresser at low speed first to confirm the alarm stays clear.
