Okuma OSP Alarm A 8562 - Whl spdl coolant pressure drop/loss

Whl spdl coolant pressure drop/loss

The control monitors the whetstone (wheel) spindle coolant pressure OK signal and it stayed OFF for more than 2 seconds. This means coolant is not reaching the wheel spindle at adequate pressure, risking overheating of the wheel spindle and poor grinding.

Common Causes

  • Whetstone coolant pump not running, tripped, or failed
  • Coolant tank level low or suction line clogged so the pump loses prime
  • Whetstone coolant pressure switch faulty or its wiring/connector loose
  • Blocked coolant filter, kinked hose, or closed valve in the wheel coolant line

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Check the coolant tank level and top up if low; a low tank starves the whetstone coolant pump and drops pressure.
  2. 2Verify the whetstone coolant pump actually runs when commanded; listen for it and check its breaker/overload for a trip.
  3. 3Inspect the coolant filter, hoses and any inline valve on the wheel spindle coolant line for blockage, kinks, or a closed valve.
  4. 4With the pump running, check the whetstone coolant pressure switch: confirm it changes state when pressure is present and inspect its connector and cable for looseness or damage.
  5. 5If the pump and lines are good but the OK signal never comes on, replace the pressure switch; if the alarm persists, record the alarm number and contact Okuma service.
