Okuma OSP Alarm C 3772 - Coolant flow

Coolant flow

The control turned a coolant output on but the matching flow sensor never confirmed flow within the coolant flow monitor time, or a flow switch stayed on when the coolant output was off. At the machine this means coolant is not actually reaching the tool/turret as commanded, or a flow switch is stuck or miswired.

Common Causes

  • Low coolant level in the tank or a clogged/kinked coolant pipe
  • Flow (supply) sensor switch set to the wrong position
  • Faulty flow sensor switch
  • Flow switch stuck ON or miswired so it reads flow with the coolant output off (codes 5-7)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = Coolant flow sensor did not turn ON within the coolant flow monitor time (supply-sensor type machines); code 1 = Coolant 1 flow not detected within the coolant 1 flow alarm monitor time after coolant 1 output ON; code 2 = Coolant 2 flow not detected within the coolant 2 flow alarm monitor time after coolant 2 output ON; code 3 = Coolant 3 flow not detected within the coolant 3 flow alarm monitor time after coolant 3 output ON; code 4 = Coolant 4 flow not detected within the coolant 4 flow alarm monitor time after coolant 4 output ON; code 5 = Coolant 1 flow switch stayed ON past the set time while coolant 1 outputs were OFF; code 6 = Coolant 2 flow switch stayed ON past the set time while coolant 2 outputs were OFF; code 7 = Coolant 3 flow switch stayed ON past the set time while coolant 3 outputs were OFF
  2. 2Read the code on screen to identify which circuit failed: codes 1-4/13-15 are coolant 1-4 (or 2nd coolant 1-3) not flowing within their flow alarm monitor time; 8/9 are the A-turret oil mist sensor; 10/11 are A/B turret coolant sensors; 12 is the high-pressure coolant sensor.
  3. 3Check the coolant tank level and top up if low, then inspect the pipe/hose run to the indicated circuit for clogs, kinks or a closed valve; clear or replace the pipe.
  4. 4Run the coolant output and watch whether the flow sensor switch changes state; verify the switch is mounted in the correct position per its setting.
  5. 5For codes 5-7, check why the flow switch is ON while the coolant output is OFF: look for a stuck switch, swarf jamming the switch, or wiring shorted to the ON state.
  6. 6If the switch position and wiring are good but it never/always signals, replace the flow sensor switch.
  7. 7If the alarm returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
