Okuma OSP Alarm A 1778 - No dummy tool in ATC turret

No dummy tool in ATC turret

An axis move was commanded while the ATC turret position that should hold a dummy tool is empty. The control blocks the move because a real tool in that station could collide with the machine during axis travel. This is a programming or setup issue, not a hardware failure.

Common Causes

  • Dummy tool not mounted in the ATC turret station required for the commanded move
  • Program commands an axis move without the correct dummy tool (L-tool or M-tool) in place
  • Operator removed the dummy tool during setup and did not reinstall it

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = No dummy tool set for either the L-tool or the M-tool position; code 2 = The L-tool dummy tool is not set; code 3 = The M-tool dummy tool is not set
  2. 2Read the code on screen: Code 1 means no dummy tool for either L-tool or M-tool, Code 2 means the L-tool dummy is missing, Code 3 means the M-tool dummy is missing.
  3. 3Mount the required dummy tool in the ATC turret station indicated by the code, then re-command the axis move.
  4. 4Check the program and setup sheet to confirm which dummy tool (L or M) the operation expects at that turret position.
  5. 5For a test run where no tools are actually used, this check can be disabled per the manual's note for test operation; re-enable it before production.
