The control blocked or stopped motion because a guarded cover, window, or door was not in the closed state for the mode being used. The code identifies which guard circuit was open when an automatic/MDI move, spindle rotation, ATC action, loader operation, or turret/ceiling-door sequence was requested.

Okuma OSP Alarm A 1788 - Safety door open
Safety door open
The control blocked or stopped motion because a guarded cover, window, or door was not in the closed state for the mode being used. The code identifies which guard circuit was open when an automatic/MDI move, spindle rotation, ATC action, loader operation, or turret/ceiling-door sequence was requested.
Common Causes
Side cover, back cover, reference-block measuring cover, cleaning window, or magazine cleaning cover left open or not latched
Chuck open/close limit-SW regulation door open while a spindle command was active
ATC maintenance cover or ATC shutter open during ATC, spindle, M-tool spindle, or axis motion
Door/cover interlock switch out of adjustment, dirty, damaged, or with a loose connector/broken wire
Troubleshooting Steps
1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = In automatic or MDI mode, an axis feed command was made with the in-machine measuring reference-block cover open while a non sensor-in tool was selected at the cutting position.; code 2 = A spindle rotation command was issued, or rotation continued, while the chuck open/close limit-SW regulation door was open.; code 3 = The ATC moved or was commanded while the ATC maintenance cover was open.; code 4 = The ATC maintenance cover and ATC shutter were open during spindle, M-tool spindle, or axis motion, or such motion was commanded with them open.; code 5 = Spindle rotation was commanded or continued while the loader safety cover was not closed.; code 6 = A ceiling door open/close command conflicted with a turret rotation instruction while the measuring sensor was mounted for the M-tool securing pin.; code 7 = The magazine cleaning cover is open.
2Read the code on the alarm screen first and go straight to that guard: 1 measuring reference-block cover, 2 chuck limit-SW regulation door, 3 ATC maintenance cover, 4 ATC maintenance cover/shutter, 5 loader safety cover, 6 ceiling door/turret with measuring sensor, 7 magazine cleaning cover.
3Code 1: close the in-machine measuring reference-block cover; if an axis move is required with it open, use only the sensor-in tool condition permitted by the control before commanding feed.
4Code 2: stop spindle rotation, close the chuck open/close limit-SW regulation door, then retry; if it stays alarmed, verify that door switch changes state at the input when the door is opened and closed.
5Codes 3 and 4: close and latch the ATC maintenance cover and ATC shutter before any ATC cycle, spindle/M-tool spindle start, or axis move; inspect both shutter and cover switches rather than assuming only one is monitored.
6Code 5: close the loader safety cover before spindle start and keep it closed during rotation; Code 7: close the magazine cleaning cover and confirm its switch input follows the cover.
7If the correct cover is physically closed, lock out power before opening the electrical area, then check the interlock switch actuator gap, connector seating, and cable for chafing; if it returns after these checks, record alarm number, code, and object and contact Okuma service.
