Okuma OSP Alarm A 1802 - Safety guard interlock

Safety guard interlock

An operation that requires the safety guard to be locked was attempted while the guard was unlocked. The control blocked the action to protect the operator, and the code identifies which operation was attempted.

Common Causes

  • Operator attempted a guarded operation (spindle, axis move, turret index, chuck, touch setter) with the guard open or unlocked
  • START LOADER pressed in LOADER LINK mode with the guard unlocked
  • Faulty ENABLE button on the loader teaching panel
  • Faulty or maladjusted limit switch on the safety guard reporting unlocked when it is locked

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = START LOADER pressed on the loader panel in LOADER LINK mode with the guard unlocked; code 2 = Spindle rotation attempted with guard unlocked; code 3 = M-tool (live tool) spindle rotation attempted with guard unlocked; code 4 = Axis movement attempted with guard unlocked; code 5 = Turret indexing attempted with guard unlocked; code 9 = Touch setter advance/retract attempted with guard unlocked; code 10 = Chuck open/close attempted with guard unlocked
  2. 2Read the code on screen to identify the attempted operation: 1 = START LOADER in LOADER LINK mode, 2 = spindle rotation, 3 = M-tool spindle rotation, 4 = axis movement, 5 = turret indexing, 9 = touch setter advance/retract, 10 = chuck open/close.
  3. 3Close and lock the safety guard, confirm the guard-locked indication, then retry the same operation.
  4. 4If the alarm occurs with the guard fully closed and locked, check the safety guard limit switch: verify it physically actuates when the guard closes and that its signal changes state at the control.
  5. 5For Code 1 with the loader, check the ENABLE button on the loader teaching panel for sticking or failure; replace the teaching panel if the button is faulty.
  6. 6Replace the safety guard limit switch if it does not change state reliably, then verify the interlock releases with the guard locked.
