Okuma OSP Alarm A 1824 - Oil cooler error

Oil cooler error

A fault was detected in the oil cooling unit serving the spindle head or M-spindle, or in the spindle lubrication oil level monitoring. The object identifies which spindle (SPDL-1, SPDL-2 or M-axis) and the code identifies the specific temperature or level fault.

Common Causes

  • Oil cooler unit failure or oil temperature error (input iOCL/)
  • Spindle oil cooler level error switch off for 30 s or more (low oil level or faulty switch)
  • Lube oil upper level switch in the drain tank off for 3 s or more
  • Lube oil upper level switch in the spindle off for 30 s or more (lube oil not reaching the spindle)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Oil temperature error detected (input signal iOCL/).; code 2 = Spindle oil cooler level error switch held OFF for 30 seconds or longer.; code 3 = Spindle lube oil upper level switch in the drain tank held OFF for 3 seconds or longer.; code 4 = Spindle lube oil upper level switch in the spindle held OFF for 30 seconds or longer.
  2. 2Read the code and object to identify which spindle cooling circuit (1st spindle iOCA/, 2nd spindle i2OCA/, M-spindle iMOCAL/) and which fault type is reported.
  3. 3Code 1 (oil temperature error, input iOCL/): check the oil cooler unit is running, its fans/pumps operate, and the cooler is not clogged with swarf or blocked airflow; clean filters and fins.
  4. 4Code 2: check the oil cooler tank level and top up with the specified oil; if the level is correct, inspect the level error switch and its wiring.
  5. 5Code 3: check the drain tank lube oil level and the upper level switch in the drain tank; look for a stuck float or disconnected switch wiring.
  6. 6Code 4: verify lube oil is actually being delivered to the spindle (pump running, lines not kinked or leaking); if delivery is normal, check the upper level switch inside the spindle and its wiring.
  7. 7If the alarm returns after oil levels and switches are confirmed good, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
