Okuma OSP Alarm A 1799 - Sensor protection cover interlock

Sensor protection cover interlock

The tool breakage sensor protection cover was commanded to open or close while the machine conditions did not allow it, or a spindle/M-tool rotation or axis/turret motion command was issued while the sensor cover was not in its closed position. The interlock protects the breakage sensor from collision and contamination.

Common Causes

  • Cover open/close command issued while the spindle, M-tool spindle, or C-axis is still rotating
  • Cover command issued while the turret is not at the Z-axis travel end
  • Spindle, M-spindle, axis, or turret index command issued with the sensor cover not confirmed closed
  • Faulty or misadjusted cover closed-position confirmation switch

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Cover open/close commanded while spindle stop conditions were not satisfied; code 2 = Cover open/close commanded while the M-tool spindle was rotating; code 3 = Cover open/close commanded while the C-axis was rotating; code 4 = Cover open/close commanded while the turret was not at the Z-axis travel end; code 5 = Spindle rotation commanded, or running, with the tool breakage sensor cover not closed; code 6 = M-spindle rotation commanded, or running, with the sensor cover not closed; code 7 = Axis or C-axis movement commanded, or in progress, with the sensor cover not closed; code 8 = Turret indexing commanded, or in progress, with the sensor cover not closed
  2. 2Read the code to identify the violated condition: 1=spindle stop requirements not met, 2=M-tool spindle rotating, 3=C-axis rotating, 4=turret not at Z-axis travel end, 5-8=cover not closed during spindle rotation, M-spindle rotation, axis/C-axis movement, or turret indexing.
  3. 3For codes 1-3, stop all rotation (spindle, M-tool spindle, C-axis) and confirm zero speed before commanding the sensor protection cover open or closed.
  4. 4For code 4, move the turret to the Z-axis travel end before issuing the cover open/close command.
  5. 5For codes 5-8, command the cover closed and verify the closed-position signal is present before starting spindle rotation, M-spindle rotation, axis movement, or turret indexing.
  6. 6If the cover is physically closed but the alarm persists, inspect the cover closed-position limit switch and its wiring for misadjustment, swarf contamination, or failure.
