Okuma OSP Alarm A 1783 - Turret unclamp time over

Turret unclamp time over

The control commanded the turret to unclamp but the unclamp confirmation did not come on within the allowed time, so indexing cannot start. Depending on the code, the missing confirmation is the turret unclamp switch, the TA-axis clutch engage switch, or the B-axis brake release switch.

Common Causes

  • Unclamp limit switch out of adjustment so it never makes
  • Low hydraulic oil pressure to the unclamp circuit
  • Unclamp solenoid valve not shifting
  • B-axis brake not releasing (code 3)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Turret unclamp confirmation switch did not turn ON; code 2 = TA-axis clutch connect confirmation switch did not turn ON; code 3 = B-axis brake OFF confirmation switch did not turn ON
  2. 2Read the code on screen: 1 = turret unclamp confirm switch never turned ON; 2 = TA-axis clutch connect confirm switch never ON; 3 = B-axis brake OFF confirm switch never ON.
  3. 3Code 1: watch the unclamp limit switch while commanding unclamp; if the turret physically unclamps but the switch does not change state, readjust the switch position.
  4. 4Check hydraulic pressure at the turret unclamp circuit; low oil pressure will leave the turret clamped even with the solenoid energized.
  5. 5Confirm the unclamp solenoid valve is being energized and actually shifts; a stuck or dead coil leaves the turret clamped.
  6. 6Code 3: check the B-axis brake release function and its confirmation switch; a brake that stays applied blocks unclamp.
  7. 7If the alarm returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
