Okuma OSP Alarm A 1776 - Sensor head not at retract position
A spindle rotation (M03/M04), M-tool rotation (M13/M14), axis move, turret index, chuck, steadyrest, door, or coolant command was issued while the A-side or B-side sensor head (or tool breakage sensor) was not confirmed at its retract position. The control blocks the command to keep the sensor head from being struck.

Okuma OSP Alarm A 1776 - Sensor head not at retract position
Sensor head not at retract position
A spindle rotation (M03/M04), M-tool rotation (M13/M14), axis move, turret index, chuck, steadyrest, door, or coolant command was issued while the A-side or B-side sensor head (or tool breakage sensor) was not confirmed at its retract position. The control blocks the command to keep the sensor head from being struck.
Common Causes
Programming error: spindle rotation or another move commanded before the sensor head was returned to standby (M118 must precede M03/M13 etc.)
Faulty EC input signals for sensor head position: I/O check NO.26 INPUT bit E (iSHRTC, retract end) or bit F (iSHADC, advance end)
Sensor head or tool breakage sensor not physically retracting (air supply, cylinder, or sticking mechanism)
Retract-end confirmation switch misadjusted or failed, so the retract signal never turns ON
Troubleshooting Steps
1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Spindle rotation command (M03/M04) issued with sensor head not retracted; code 2 = M-tool rotation command (M13/M14) issued with sensor head not retracted; code 3 = Axis movement command issued with sensor head not retracted; code 4 = Turret index command issued with sensor head not retracted; code 5 = Chuck open/close command issued with sensor head not retracted; code 6 = Steadyrest open/close command issued with sensor head not retracted; code 7 = Tool breakage sensor not at retract position during spindle rotation or spindle rotation commanded; code 8 = Tool breakage sensor not at retract position during M-spindle rotation or M-spindle rotation commanded
2Read the code on screen to identify the blocked command: 1 = spindle rotation, 2 = M-tool rotation, 3 = axis move, 4 = turret index, 5 = chuck open/close, 6 = steadyrest open/close, 7-12 = tool breakage sensor not retracted during spindle/M-spindle rotation, axis/C-axis move, turret index, door open, or coolant.
3Check the program order: the sensor head must be returned to standby with M118 before any spindle rotation command — e.g. G13 / M117 ... M118, then M03 M41 S100. Move the M118 block ahead of the rotation or move command.
4Visually confirm the sensor head (or tool breakage sensor) actually retracts fully when commanded; if it is slow or stalls, check its air supply and cylinder.
5Monitor I/O check NO.26 INPUT bit E (iSHRTC) and bit F (iSHADC) while cycling the head: retract end must be ON when parked and advance end ON only when extended.
6If the head is parked but the retract bit stays OFF, inspect and adjust the retract-end confirmation switch and check its connector and cable before replacing it.
7If the inputs are correct and the alarm returns, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
