Okuma OSP Alarm A 1774 - Sensor head advance/retract interlock
An M117/M118 sensor head (touch setter) advance or retract command was issued while one of the required machine conditions was not met, or an advance-impossible condition arose while the head was moving. The code identifies exactly which interlock condition blocked the move, such as spindle not stopped, chuck clamped, turret not at travel end, or door open.

Okuma OSP Alarm A 1774 - Sensor head advance/retract interlock
Sensor head advance/retract interlock
An M117/M118 sensor head (touch setter) advance or retract command was issued while one of the required machine conditions was not met, or an advance-impossible condition arose while the head was moving. The code identifies exactly which interlock condition blocked the move, such as spindle not stopped, chuck clamped, turret not at travel end, or door open.
Common Causes
Program error - M117 commanded while the spindle is still running (e.g. M03 S5000 immediately followed by M117)
Operation error - turret or another unit moved manually away from the required position before gauging
Interlocked equipment (tailstock, parts catcher, work rest, loader, deburring unit, etc.) not at its required retract/travel end position
Faulty EC input signal, e.g. parts catcher retract-end confirmation (I/O check NO.51 INPUT bit9, iPCBA)
Troubleshooting Steps
1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Spindle stop requirements not met (zero speed, stop signal ON, rotation signal OFF); code 2 = Tailstock spindle not at retract end (center work spec); code 3 = Chuck not unclamped; code 4 = Interlocked equipment not at retract position; code 5 = Turret not at Z-axis travel end; code 6 = Workpiece present signal turned ON while head was advancing; code 7 = Tool gauging arm not at advance end; code 8 = Robot-inside-NC-lathe signal ON (robot spec)
2Read the code on screen - it names the exact blocking condition. Fix that condition, then re-issue M117/M118.
3Code 1: make sure the spindle is fully stopped before commanding the sensor head - spindle zero-speed signal ON, spindle stop signal ON, rotation signal OFF. Add a dwell or M05 before M117 in the program.
4Code 2/3/15/16: retract the tailstock spindle to its end (center work spec), unclamp the chuck, open the sub-spindle chuck, or move the sub spindle to the W-axis travel end as applicable.
5Codes 5/26/32/41: move the turret to the Z-axis (or XA/XB) travel end or home position 1, and clear any ZA/ZB interference position before advancing the head.
6Codes 4/7/10/11/12/13/19/20/21/31/33/35: bring the named equipment (interlocked device, gauging arm, work rest, temporary stand, parts catcher, loader, work pusher, deburring unit, unload carrier, coiling prevention, APC arm) to its required retract/advance end and verify its confirmation input is ON.
7Codes 8/9/17/40: clear the robot/loader-inside signal, close the machine door or maintenance door before commanding the head.
8Codes 14/18/23/29/30: stop C-axis or M-tool spindle rotation, turn coolant off, or complete spindle orientation to the required angular position.
9Code 34 (dual palm type): keep both palm buttons pressed for the entire advance/retract stroke; releasing either one raises this alarm.
10If the condition appears satisfied but the alarm persists, check the corresponding EC input signal in the I/O monitor (e.g. NO.51 INPUT bit9 for parts catcher retract end) for a faulty switch or wiring.
