Okuma OSP Alarm A 1723 - Z-axis moved to spindle interference distance

Z-axis moved to spindle interference distance

On a new LT-control (twin-spindle/twin-turret) lathe, a Z axis moved into a position where the distance between the ZA and ZB axes (or a Z axis and the spindle head) became smaller than the interference-distance setting. The control stopped motion to prevent a collision between saddles or with the spindle head.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect setting of parameter long word No. 53, 56 or 57 (interference distance)
  • Program error moving ZA/ZB too close together
  • Manual operation error jogging into the interference zone

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = ZA/ZB axis distance became smaller than parameter long word No. 53; code 2 = With XA and XB not together on the plus variable limit, ZB came closer than parameter long word No. 56; code 3 = With spindle-head interlock and X on the plus variable limit, Z came closer than parameter long word No. 57
  2. 2Read the code to identify which condition tripped: Code 1 = ZA/ZB distance fell below parameter long word No. 53; Code 2 = with XA and XB not together on the plus variable limit, ZB came closer than parameter long word No. 56; Code 3 = with the spindle-head interlock spec and X on the plus variable limit, Z came closer than parameter long word No. 57.
  3. 3Move the offending Z axis away from the interference zone in manual mode to clear the condition.
  4. 4Check the program or the manual move that drove the axes together and correct the commanded positions.
  5. 5Verify the settings of parameter long word No. 53, 56 and 57 match the intended interference distances for this machine configuration; correct any wrong value.
  6. 6If the alarm recurs with correct parameters and program, record the alarm number, code and axis positions and contact Okuma service.
