Okuma OSP Alarm A 1731 - Turret index control alarm
The turret index controller reported a fault during a turret indexing operation. The code shown on screen is the alarm code passed back from the index controller itself, identifying which phase of the index cycle (unclamp, rotation, clamp, position detection) failed.

Okuma OSP Alarm A 1731 - Turret index control alarm
Turret index control alarm
The turret index controller reported a fault during a turret indexing operation. The code shown on screen is the alarm code passed back from the index controller itself, identifying which phase of the index cycle (unclamp, rotation, clamp, position detection) failed.
Common Causes
Code E: program or MDI input commanded a station number the turret does not have (e.g. T14** on a 12-station turret)
Defective turret index controller
Fault in the mechanical turret index mechanism (clamp/unclamp, rotation drive)
Fault in the electrical (EC) hardware related to turret indexing (solenoids, position switches, wiring)
Troubleshooting Steps
1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 2 = Turret unclamp did not complete within the allowed time; code 3 = Turret rotation did not accelerate within the allowed time; code 4 = Turret did not reach rotation speed within the allowed time; code 5 = Indexing did not complete within the allowed time; code 6 = Turret rotated in the wrong direction; code 7 = Turret did not decelerate within the allowed time; code 8 = Creep (final approach) phase timed out; code 9 = Turret clamp error
2Read the code displayed with the alarm and identify the failed phase: 2=unclamp time over, 3=acceleration time over, 4=rotation speed time over, 5=index over, 6=rotation direction error, 7=deceleration time over, 8=creep time over, 9=clamp error, A/B=position detection error, D=neutral time over, E=communication error, F=clamp time over.
3If the code is E, check the last T command in the program or MDI input: confirm the commanded station number exists on this turret (e.g. T14 commanded on a 12-station turret) and correct the command.
4For time-over codes (2, 3, 4, 7, 8, D, F), watch a manual index cycle and note where it stalls: verify the turret unclamps and clamps fully and that hydraulic/air pressure for the clamp circuit is present.
5For clamp error (9) or position detection errors (A, B), inspect the turret clamp/unclamp confirmation switches and position detection sensors and their connectors for contamination, misadjustment, or damage.
6For rotation direction error (6), check the turret rotation motor wiring and drive outputs for reversed or missing phases.
7If the alarm persists after these checks, the turret index controller itself is suspect; record the alarm number and code and contact Okuma service.
