Okuma OSP Alarm A 1730 - Turret clamp/position check error

Turret clamp/position check error

The control detected that the turret clamp confirmation signal dropped out while an axis was moving under program control, or that the programmed tool number and the actual turret position disagreed for more than 1 second. This means the turret may not be securely clamped or may not be at the station the program expects, so machining cannot safely continue.

Common Causes

  • Faulty or misadjusted turret clamp confirmation limit switch or its wiring
  • Turret index limit switch problem causing wrong-station detection
  • Turret over-travelling the target station due to a misadjusted index solenoid
  • Incorrect T-axis position encoder offset value
  • Cutting feed commanded while the turret was still unclamped

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code X=None = Programmed and actual tool numbers do not match; code X=1 = Turret clamp confirmation signal went out during axis movement (function generation); code X=2 = Programmed vs actual tool number mismatch found after turret clamped; code X=3 = Cutting feed commanded while NC turret unclamped; not clamped within 500 ms; code X=4 = Cutting feed commanded without M-tool spindle edge angle while L-tool or sensor is registered as present tool; code X=5 = Rapid, jog or handle feed commanded with turret unclamped and index motor servo OFF; code X=7 = Turret positioning not finished; code YY = Hexadecimal designated tool number
  2. 2Decode the X digit of the XYY code: blank = programmed vs actual tool number mismatch; 1 = clamp confirm signal lost during axis movement; 2 = tool number mismatch after clamping; 3 = cutting feed commanded with turret unclamped and not clamped within 500 ms; 4 = cutting feed commanded without the M-tool spindle edge angle set while an L-tool or sensor is registered; 5 = rapid/jog/handle feed commanded with turret unclamped and index motor servo off; 7 = turret positioning incomplete. YY is the designated tool number in hex; FFFFFFFF means a tool index other than T1 was commanded on an NC round table or stationary turret.
  3. 3Code X=blank or 2: check the EC inputs related to tool number detection so the control reads the actual station correctly.
  4. 4Code X=2 with the turret overshooting its station: adjust the turret index solenoid so it stops at the designated position.
  5. 5Code X=1, 4 or 5: inspect the clamp confirmation limit switch, its adjustment, and the turret-related wiring for intermittent contact.
  6. 6If the position is consistently off, verify the T-axis position encoder offset value.
  7. 7If the alarm returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
