Okuma OSP Alarm A 1735 - Sub-spindle chuck pressure insufficient

Sub-spindle chuck pressure insufficient

The control detected that sub-spindle chuck actuating pressure dropped while the sub-spindle was rotating or while the chuck was being opened or closed. It triggers when the chuck pressure confirmation input (I/O check NO.32 INPUT bit5, i2CPA/) stays OFF for more than 2 seconds, meaning the workpiece may not be held securely in the sub-spindle chuck.

Common Causes

  • Low or failed hydraulic/air pressure supply to the sub-spindle chuck circuit
  • Leaking chuck actuator, rotary union, or pressure line on the sub-spindle
  • Faulty chuck pressure confirmation switch (i2CPA/) or its wiring
  • Pressure drop from a sticking or damaged pressure control valve

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 100 = Chuck pressure dropped during sub-spindle rotation or during sub-spindle chuck open/close operation.
  2. 2Stop the machine safely; a workpiece gripped only by the sub-spindle may be loose, so support or remove it before further motion.
  3. 3Check the sub-spindle chuck pressure gauge and the hydraulic/air supply for the chuck circuit; restore pressure if the supply is low or a valve is closed.
  4. 4Inspect the chuck actuator, rotary union and lines on the sub-spindle for leaks that would bleed pressure off during rotation.
  5. 5Go to I/O check NO.32 INPUT bit5 (i2CPA/) and confirm the pressure switch input turns ON when pressure is present; if pressure is normal but the input stays OFF, check the switch and its wiring/connector.
  6. 6If the switch and wiring check out but the input still drops, replace the chuck pressure confirmation switch.
