Okuma OSP Alarm A 1743 - Index chuck interlock

Index chuck interlock

A spindle rotation or chuck index command was executed while the index chuck conditions were not satisfied — the chuck was not indexed, the index completion signal was OFF, or the index fluid pressure was insufficient. The control blocked the command to protect the chuck and workpiece.

Common Causes

  • Insufficient index chuck fluid pressure or low control oil
  • Index completion/confirmation input signal faulty or irregular
  • Z axis not at the positive limit when an index command was issued
  • Chuck not clamped, or index mode selection switch not in the effective mode
  • Spindle rotating above the index-permission speed when indexing was commanded

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Spindle rotation commanded with chuck not indexed / index completion signal OFF, or signal dropped while rotating; code 2 = Chuck did not index within the preset time; code 3 = Index commanded with Z axis not at the positive limit; code 4 = Index commanded with the chuck not clamped; code 5 = Insufficient index chuck fluid pressure; code 6 = Index confirmation input signal irregular when index commanded; code 7 = Chuck not at goal index position, or confirmation signal irregular at goal; code 8 = Index chuck control oil shortage
  2. 2Read the code to branch: Code 1 = spindle rotation commanded with chuck not indexed or the completion signal dropped during rotation; Code 2 = indexing not finished within the preset time; Code 3 = index commanded with Z not at the positive limit; Code 4 = index commanded with the chuck unclamped.
  3. 3Code 5 or 8: check the index chuck fluid pressure and control oil level; restore pressure/top up oil and check for leaks in the index chuck hydraulic circuit.
  4. 4Code 6 or 7: inspect the index confirmation input signal and its switch/wiring; verify the chuck actually reaches the goal index position and the signal is stable there.
  5. 5Code 9: confirm the spindle speed is at or below the number set in the index permission parameter before issuing an index command during spindle rotation.
  6. 6Code 10: set the index chuck selection switch to the effective mode before commanding indexing.
  7. 7Code 11, 12 or 13 (position request alarm, position alarm, sequence error): re-command the index sequence from a known state; if it repeats, record the alarm number and code and contact Okuma service.
