Okuma OSP Alarm A 1752 - Tow-along tailstock clamp/unclamp error

Tow-along tailstock clamp/unclamp error

The control lost a valid clamp/unclamp (connection ON/OFF) confirmation from the tow-along tailstock: neither signal, both signals at once, or the connection ON signal appearing when the X-axis is not at stroke end or the tailstock spindle is not retracted. The tailstock connect state is therefore unreliable and axis movement is blocked to prevent towing an unclamped tailstock.

Common Causes

  • Connection ON/OFF confirmation limit switches defective or out of adjustment
  • X-axis not positioned at its travel (stroke) limit before connection
  • Tailstock spindle not fully retracted or retraction end LS not actuated
  • Tailstock clamp mechanism not completing clamp within the allowed time

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = Neither connection ON nor OFF signal for over 6 s, or an X/Z move was commanded in that state; code 3 = Both connection ON and OFF signals present together for over 6 s; code 4 = Connection ON signal appeared while X-axis was not at stroke end; code 5 = Connection ON signal appeared while the tailstock spindle was not at retraction end; code 6 = Tailstock clamp confirmation input dropped for over 1 s when AUTO or MDI mode was selected (auto clamp spec); code 7 = Tailstock was clamped while the W axis was moving; code 8 = Connection ON signal appeared with the workpiece pusher not at retract end; code 9 = Tailstock still not unclamped after the unclamp command was retried
  2. 2Read the code. No code or code 3 (neither or both confirmation signals for over 6 s): check and adjust the position of the connection ON/OFF confirmation limit switches; replace a switch that does not change state when actuated by hand.
  3. 3Code 4 or 12: move the X-axis fully up to its travel limit position before issuing the connection command.
  4. 4Code 5 or 13: retract the tailstock spindle fully and verify the retraction end limit switch actuates; adjust or replace the LS if it does not.
  5. 5Code 6: switch to MANUAL OPERATION mode and clamp the tailstock manually, then investigate why automatic clamping did not complete.
  6. 6Code 7: do not clamp the tailstock while the W axis is moving; stop W-axis motion first. Code 8: retract the workpiece pusher to its retract end before connection.
  7. 7Codes 9/10/11: retry the clamp/unclamp command; if it still does not settle, inspect the clamp/unclamp hydraulic circuit and confirmation switches.
