Okuma OSP Alarm A 1768 - Sub-spindle rotation over

Sub-spindle rotation over

While the main and sub spindle were in synchronized mode, a command tried to rotate the sub-spindle faster than the smaller of the program-designated maximum speed or the allowable maximum sub-spindle speed. The control blocked the overspeed command.

Common Causes

  • Program commands a sub-spindle S value higher than the G50 clamp
  • G50 speed clamp for the sub-spindle set lower than the commanded speed
  • Mode sequence error between G141, G140 and M151 synchronized mode

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code hex value = Hexadecimal number of the allowable maximum sub-spindle speed.
  2. 2Read the code shown on the screen: it is the hexadecimal value of the allowable maximum sub-spindle speed, so convert it and compare with the S value commanded in the program.
  3. 3Find the sub-spindle speed command (e.g. M03 S1200 on the sub-spindle side) and the G50 speed clamp that applies in G141 mode; the manual example shows G50 S1000 limiting a commanded S1200.
  4. 4Correct the program so the G50 clamp on the sub-spindle side covers the commanded speed, e.g. G50 S1200 before commanding M03 S1200, or lower the commanded S value below the clamp and the allowable maximum.
  5. 5Verify the G141/G140 and M151 mode sequence matches the manual's corrected example, then re-run in single block to confirm the sub-spindle starts without the alarm.
