Okuma OSP Alarm A 1770 - Door interlock

Door interlock

The control blocked an operation because it was commanded while the front door (or maintenance cover) was open with the door interlock function active, or the door was opened while spindle rotation, axis movement, turret indexing, M-tool rotation, ATC/AAC, coolant, chuck, tailstock or similar motion was in progress. It also trips when the door close confirmation signal is lost mid-operation or a door open command is issued under conditions where opening is not permitted. The alarm code on screen identifies exactly which operation or signal condition caused the trip.

Common Causes

  • Operator attempted spindle rotation, axis move, turret index, chuck/tailstock/coolant command, or ATC/AAC cycle with the front door open and interlock ON
  • Door opened (or door close signal dropped) while one of those operations was running
  • Faulty door close confirmation limit switch or its actuating dog mispositioned so the switch is not held actuated with the door fully closed
  • Chips, coolant buildup, or a foreign object caught in the door preventing full closure
  • Spindle speed commanded above the interlock-release allowable maximum while the interlock release switch is ON (codes 41, 76, 84, 121, 125, 129, 142)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Spindle rotation attempted with door open and interlock ON; code 2 = M-tool (live tool) spindle rotation attempted with door open; code 3 = Axis movement attempted with door open; code 4 = Turret indexing attempted with door open; code 5 = Door interlock external input is ON; code 6 = Sub-spindle or pick-off spindle rotation attempted with door open; code 7 = Spindle table rotation attempted with door open; code 10 = Upper cover open/close commanded while front cover not closed
  2. 2Read the alarm code on screen and identify the blocked operation: e.g. code 1 = spindle rotation, 3 = axis movement, 4 = turret indexing, 16 = high-pressure coolant with door not closed, 20 = chuck open/close, 21 = tailstock advance/retract, 50/51 = ATC operation with front door open, 139 = AAC operation with front door open.
  3. 3Close the front door (and maintenance cover, ceiling door, or loader door as applicable) fully and retry the operation; do not open the door while the spindle is rotating or an axis is moving.
  4. 4If the alarm persists with the door visibly closed, check the door close confirmation limit switch: for code 17 the front door close confirmation is slave station 14 input, bit 1 of strobe 2 — verify this input turns ON when the door is shut.
  5. 5Inspect the limit switch actuating dog and adjust its position so the switch stays actuated for the entire closed travel of the door; replace the switch if it does not change state when manually actuated.
  6. 6Open the door and clear any chips, coolant sludge, or foreign material caught in the door track, seal, or latch that prevents full closure, then verify the close signal again.
  7. 7For codes 41-43, 76-77, 84, 121-135, or 142 (speed limit with interlock release switch ON or ceiling door open), reduce the commanded spindle speed below the allowable maximum for the door-open/interlock-release state before retrying.
  8. 8If the alarm returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code, and character string and contact Okuma service.
