Okuma OSP Alarm A 1745 - Chucking miss

Chucking miss

The control found that a workpiece is supposed to be clamped, but the chucking error detection pressure switch never actuated. Either the part was not gripped correctly or the clamp confirmation signal never arrived, so machining is stopped to avoid launching a loose workpiece.

Common Causes

  • Workpiece mis-seated or too small for the jaws so clamp pressure never built up
  • Chucking error detection pressure switch faulty, misadjusted or air/oil supply low
  • Chuck actuator or hydraulic circuit weak so clamp pressure is below switch threshold

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = Main chuck clamp confirmation pressure switch did not actuate or workpiece not clamped correctly; code 1 = Tailstock chuck clamp confirmation pressure switch did not actuate or workpiece not clamped correctly; code 2 = 2nd chuck clamp confirmation pressure switch did not actuate or workpiece not clamped correctly; code 3 = Tailstock tool chuck clamp confirmation pressure switch did not actuate or tool not clamped correctly
  2. 2Read the code on screen: None = main chuck, 1 = tailstock chuck, 2 = 2nd chuck, 3 = tailstock tool chuck, and go to that device.
  3. 3Open the chuck, remove the workpiece, clean the jaws and part seating faces, then reclamp and confirm the part sits flat and grips fully.
  4. 4Verify clamp pressure at the hydraulic gauge for the reported chuck and confirm the chucking error detection pressure switch changes state when clamping.
  5. 5If pressure is normal but the switch never actuates, adjust or replace the pressure switch and its wiring, then retry the clamp cycle.
