Okuma OSP Alarm A 1724 - Spindle synchronization interlock

Spindle synchronization interlock

A spindle synchronized control command (M151/M150) was issued while one of the required preconditions for A-spindle/B-spindle synchronized rotation was not met. The control blocks synchronization to prevent part or machine damage during workpiece transfer between spindles.

Common Causes

  • Program error — missing spindle rotation or S command on the A- or B-spindle before M151
  • Chuck not clamped on the required spindle, or gear not in neutral
  • B-spindle not selected, or B-spindle speed higher than A-spindle speed at synchronization
  • Missing prerequisite commands such as M109 before M151 in the B-spindle program

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = A-spindle rotation command not active; code 2 = No S command active for the A-spindle; code 3 = A-spindle chuck not clamped; code 4 = B-spindle rotation command not active; code 5 = No S command active for the B-spindle; code 6 = B-spindle fixed-speed rotation signal is ON; code 7 = A-spindle gear not in neutral; code 8 = B-spindle gear not in neutral
  2. 2Read the hexadecimal code on screen; it is the condition number from the manual list (1-20) that was not satisfied — branch on that number.
  3. 3Code 1/2: add or verify the A-spindle rotation command and S command are active before M151.
  4. 4Code 4/5/6: confirm the B-spindle has an active rotation command and S command, and that its fixed-speed rotation signal is not ON.
  5. 5Code 3/13/16: check the chuck clamp state on the A- or B-spindle as indicated; clamp the chuck before commanding synchronization on or off.
  6. 6Code 7/8/9/20: verify both spindle gears are in neutral and the C-axis connection/clamp state on both spindles matches the requirement.
  7. 7Code 10/12: select the B-spindle and, if the B-spindle is already turning, ensure its speed is below the A-spindle speed; correct the program per the manual example (e.g. change M110 to M41 and add M109 before M151).
