Okuma OSP Alarm A 1715 - Spindle revolution over

Spindle revolution over

The spindle drive motor ran faster than the speed it was told to run. The control watches actual spindle speed through the pulse generator and raises this alarm when real speed goes above the ordered speed, pointing to a feedback or drive problem.

Common Causes

  • Pulse generator (PG) feedback fault giving wrong speed data
  • Spindle drive motor or FCP board malfunction causing runaway speed
  • Max speed command by G50 exceeded, or wrong gear selection (M40 to M44) for the commanded speed

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Check the G50 max speed command in the program: if the specified spindle speed exceeds the max speed set by G50, the control automatically clamps to the G50 value, so verify the G50 setting matches the job.
  2. 2Verify the gear selection (low/high speed selection by motor coil switching, M40 to M44) matches the commanded speed range; a wrong gear range can make actual speed diverge from commanded.
  3. 3Observe the actual spindle speed on the screen versus commanded speed during a slow ramp; a large divergence points to the pulse generator PG feedback.
  4. 4Inspect the pulse generator PG coupling and wiring on the spindle for looseness or damage.
  5. 5If feedback is correct, suspect the spindle drive motor or FCP board; record the alarm details and contact Okuma service.
