Okuma OSP Alarm A 1713 - Spindle rotation interlock

Spindle rotation interlock

A spindle forward/reverse, jog, or orientation command was given in a mode other than MANUAL while the spindle safety interlock function was ON, or a safety confirmation signal (chuck, tailstock, workpiece stand, cover, etc.) was not satisfied or dropped out during rotation. The control blocked or stopped spindle rotation to prevent an unsafe condition.

Common Causes

  • Program or MDI issued M03/M04/M19 (or spindle jog) with the safety interlock ON or a guard door open
  • A confirmation signal (chuck clamp, tailstock advance/clamp, workpiece stand end-point, C-axis brake pressure, cover closed) was OFF when rotation was commanded
  • A confirmation limit switch or pressure switch dropped out while the spindle was already rotating
  • Faulty or misadjusted confirmation switch/dog giving a false OFF signal

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 2 = On a pin-type orientation spindle, the pin-detached confirmation turned OFF during spindle rotation; code 3 = Rotation (incl. inching, orientation, C-axis) commanded while the grip detector retract-position confirmation was OFF; code 9 = Rotation commanded with tailstock chuck not unclamped, or its state changed during rotation; code 10 = Rotation commanded with spindle chuck not clamped, or chuck unclamped during rotation; code 11 = Rotation commanded with tailstock chuck not clamped, or unclamped during rotation; code 12 = Rotation commanded with tailstock not at advance position, or it moved off advance during rotation; code 13 = Rotation commanded with tailstock not clamped, or unclamped during rotation; code 14 = Rotation commanded with tailstock connected, or it became connected during rotation
  2. 2Read the code number shown with the alarm on screen; it identifies exactly which interlock condition failed (e.g. Code 10: spindle chuck not clamped; Code 12: tailstock not at advance position; Code 22: C-axis brake pressure switch input OFF over 1 s during rotation).
  3. 3For the device named by the code, verify the real machine state: chuck clamped, tailstock advanced and clamped, workpiece stand at its UP/DOWN end-point, cover/shutter closed, ejector/pusher retracted, etc., and correct the condition before commanding rotation again.
  4. 4If the physical state is correct but the alarm persists, check the corresponding confirmation switch or pressure switch and its wiring: actuate the device and confirm the input signal toggles on the control's I/O monitor.
  5. 5If the alarm occurred because M03/M04/M19 or spindle jog was commanded with the interlock ON, close the door and re-command rotation only after all interlock conditions are satisfied.
  6. 6For codes 11, 12, or 13 (tailstock chuck/center work related), release the alarm by changing the standard parameter that switches between chuck work and center work, as the manual directs.
  7. 7If it returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
