Okuma OSP Alarm A 1712 - ZB-axis overload

ZB-axis overload

The load detection meter relay for the Z-axis of the B-turret remained ON past its configured detection time because of overload. This indicates the ZB axis motor was under sustained excessive load, most often from cutting conditions that are too heavy or from relay settings that are too tight.

Common Causes

  • Feedrate on the B-turret Z-axis programmed too high
  • Depth of cut too large for the tool or material
  • Meter relay trip value set too low
  • Overload detection time set too short

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Identify the cut in progress when the alarm tripped and reduce the ZB feedrate and/or depth of cut, then rerun the operation.
  2. 2Inspect the B-turret Z-axis slide and ball screw area for chip buildup or mechanical resistance that could raise the axis load.
  3. 3Check the meter relay setting for the ZB axis; if the trip value is set too small the relay will pick up under normal cutting load — readjust to the proper value.
  4. 4Verify the detection time setting is not excessively short, which would cause momentary load peaks to be reported as overload.
  5. 5If the overload persists with conservative cutting conditions and correct settings, record the alarm number and contact Okuma service.
