Okuma OSP Alarm A 1710 - XB-axis overload

XB-axis overload

The load detection meter relay for the X-axis of the B-turret stayed on longer than its set detection time, meaning the XB-axis motor carried an overload that would not clear. The control stops the axis to protect the motor and ballscrew.

Common Causes

  • Program error: feedrate too high or depth of cut too large on the B-turret X-axis
  • Meter relay setting too small so normal cutting load trips it
  • Detection time setting too short for the operation being run

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Look at the program block active when the alarm occurred and check the XB-axis feedrate and depth of cut; reduce them if they are aggressive for the material and tooling.
  2. 2Check the meter relay setting for the B-turret X-axis and confirm it is not set so low that ordinary cutting load holds it on.
  3. 3Check the detection time setting for the overload relay; a value that is too short will trip on brief load spikes that are not real overloads.
  4. 4Move the XB-axis by hand with power off to feel for binding from chips packed in the way covers or a failing ballscrew bearing that adds load.
  5. 5After corrections, rerun the cycle at reduced load first and watch the B-turret X-axis load meter through the cut.
