Okuma OSP Alarm A 1709 - XA-axis overload

XA-axis overload

The load detection meter relay monitoring the X-axis of the A-turret stayed energized longer than its set detection time, meaning the axis motor drew excessive current for too long. The control interprets this as a sustained mechanical overload on the XA axis, typically from an overly aggressive cut or a misadjusted relay.

Common Causes

  • Programmed feedrate too high for the material or tool
  • Depth of cut too large, overloading the XA axis drive
  • Meter relay trip setting adjusted too low (too sensitive)
  • Overload detection time set too short

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note when the alarm occurred: if it tripped during a heavy cut, reduce the feedrate and/or depth of cut on the XA axis pass and retry.
  2. 2Check the A-turret X-axis slide for mechanical binding — chips packed in the way covers or a tight gib can raise axis load enough to trip the relay.
  3. 3Verify the meter relay trip setting has not been turned down too far; compare it against the intended setting and readjust if it is too small.
  4. 4Check the overload detection time setting; if it was set very short, even normal cutting load spikes will hold the relay ON long enough to alarm.
  5. 5If the alarm returns with light cuts and correct settings, record the alarm number and contact Okuma service.
