Okuma OSP Alarm A 1708 - Canceling stroke end limit

Canceling stroke end limit

The stroke end limit cancel function was active while a mode other than MANUAL (or other than pulse handle when cancel mode is selected) was chosen. The control only allows the travel limit release to be used in manual operation, so it raises this alarm to prevent an axis being run past its limit under automatic control.

Common Causes

  • Stroke end limit cancel switch left ON while switching to MDI or AUTO mode
  • A mode other than pulse handle selected while stroke end limit cancel mode is active
  • Operator forgot to turn the travel limit release switch off after recovering an overtravel

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = An operation mode other than MANUAL was selected while the limit cancel was active
  2. 2Check the operation mode selector: if it is not in MANUAL, switch it to MANUAL.
  3. 3With manual mode selected, turn the stroke end limit cancel switch ON, then press the reset button to clear the alarm.
  4. 4Jog the axis back inside its stroke limit using the manual pulse handle or jog keys.
  5. 5Once the axis is clear of the limit, turn the travel limit release (stroke end limit cancel) switch OFF before returning to AUTO or MDI operation.
