KUKA Robot KRC0550 - CP/PTP approximation not feasible

CP/PTP approximation not feasible

The robot cannot perform continuous path (CP) or point-to-point (PTP) movement as programmed in the KRL code because the trajectory violates kinematic constraints. The motion request exceeds axis limits, requires a rotation greater than 180 degrees, includes a singularity change, or violates programmed software limit switches.

Common Causes

  • Axis traversing distance programmed in CP block exceeds 180 degrees for wrist orientation (S parameter)
  • Tool center point (TCP) target position requires the robot to cross through a singularity configuration without proper approximation setup
  • Software limit switch boundary has been violated in the KRL program path definition or teach point coordinates
  • Approximation parameters (APO) in the CP block are too small or not configured properly for the motion distance required
  • Target position is unreachable within the robot workspace or requires mechanical limitations to be exceeded

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Review the KRL program source code and verify all CP block parameters, target coordinates, and APO (approximation) values are correct
  2. 2Check that the programmed path does not require any single axis to rotate more than 180 degrees by examining teach point positions
  3. 3Use the KUKA smartPAD move panel to verify that the target position is reachable and within the defined software limit switches
  4. 4Increase the approximation distance (APO) parameter in the CP block or add intermediate via points to avoid singularities
  5. 5Manually move the robot using the smartPAD teach pendant to find an alternative tool orientation that achieves the same end position
  6. 6If the path is fundamentally invalid, restructure the KRL program using additional intermediate points or PTP motions between CP segments
