KUKA Robot KRC0551 - Channel not compatible with protocol

Channel not compatible with protocol

This alarm occurs when the PLC protocol communication mode is enabled in the KRC controller configuration, but the serial channel declaration is not properly configured to use SER1 (the designated serial port for PLC protocol communication). The mismatch between the protocol setting and channel assignment prevents proper data transmission between the controller and external PLC devices.

Common Causes

  • Channel declaration is set to a port other than SER1 while PLC protocol is active
  • Serial channel configuration was not updated after enabling PLC protocol mode
  • Incorrect channel assignment in the KRC startup or configuration files
  • Multiple channels attempting to use PLC protocol simultaneously
  • Hardware reconfiguration where SER1 is not available or properly initialized

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify that PLC protocol is actually required for your application; disable it if not needed and reconfigure to standard communication mode
  2. 2Access the KRC controller configuration and confirm the channel declaration is explicitly set to SER1
  3. 3Check the KRC startup configuration file and ensure serial port assignments match the protocol requirements
  4. 4Inspect hardware connections to verify SER1 serial port is physically connected and functioning properly
  5. 5Clear any cached configuration data and reinitialize the controller to refresh channel-to-protocol mappings
  6. 6If using multiple communication protocols, ensure each is assigned to a unique serial channel and no conflicts exist
