KUKA Robot KRC0003 - Message Buffer Overflow

Message Buffer Overflow

The message buffer for active messages in the KRC4 control system has reached its maximum capacity, preventing new messages from being queued. This alarm indicates a software bottleneck where message processing cannot keep pace with incoming requests, causing the robot to halt all motion and command execution until the buffer is cleared.

Common Causes

  • Excessive diagnostic messages or debug output enabled in WorkVisual or diagnostic tools
  • High-frequency sensor polling or data logging creating burst message traffic
  • Malfunctioning communication interface flooding the system with repeated error messages
  • KRL program with loops generating rapid diagnostic or debug output without adequate delays
  • Corrupted system memory causing message queue corruption and inability to clear buffered items

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Power cycle the controller by pressing the E-stop button and waiting 30 seconds before restart to clear the message buffer
  2. 2Review the diagnostic message log in the KUKA smartPAD under Diagnostics menu and identify the source of high message volume
  3. 3Disable any active debug logging or diagnostic message output in WorkVisual project settings
  4. 4Check KRL program loops for excessive diagnostic output statements and add appropriate wait commands or reduce logging frequency
  5. 5Verify communication interface cables and connections for damage that may cause repeated error transmissions
  6. 6If issue persists, backup and restore the controller configuration using WorkVisual Safe Operation procedures, then contact KUKA service
