KUKA Robot KRC0008 - System Time Invalid

System Time Invalid

The system real-time clock in the KRC4 has become invalid or corrupted, preventing accurate timekeeping required for motion synchronization and logging functions. This condition is triggered after a hardware time failure and requires manual intervention to restore the system clock before normal robot operation can resume.

Common Causes

  • Backup battery depletion preventing the real-time clock circuit from maintaining time during power loss
  • Corrupted CMOS or system clock memory due to power surges, ESD, or hardware failure
  • Defective clock crystal oscillator or clock circuit component on the main control board
  • Firmware corruption or incomplete system boot sequence that failed to initialize clock settings
  • Previous hardware failure event that damaged the clock circuit without being fully recovered during reset

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Perform a full power cycle by disconnecting main power supply for 60 seconds, then power on the controller to attempt clock recovery
  2. 2Access System Settings on the KUKA smartPAD and manually set the system date and time to correct values using the configuration menu
  3. 3Verify that the backup battery has adequate voltage using the System Information display, as described in KRC0004 battery troubleshooting
  4. 4Check the system log for any TIME_HW_FAILURE messages to confirm clock failure type and review associated error history
  5. 5If the clock does not synchronize or resets on reboot, the real-time clock circuit may be defective and requires replacement of the main processor board
  6. 6Contact KUKA customer support for advanced diagnostics or board replacement if manual clock setting does not persist after power cycling
