KUKA Robot KRC0004 - Buffer Battery Voltage Low

Buffer Battery Voltage Low

The backup battery voltage in the KRC4 controller has fallen below the minimum operating threshold required to maintain system integrity during power loss events. The robot stops all motion as a safety precaution to prevent data corruption and unexpected behavior if main power fails during operation.

Common Causes

  • Battery age exceeding manufacturer lifespan, typically 5-7 years of normal operation
  • Defective battery cell or internal battery failure causing inability to hold charge
  • Prolonged power loss or multiple power cycling events that have depleted battery reserves
  • Excessive backup power drain from controller memory retention during extended idle periods
  • Faulty battery charging circuit in the power supply module preventing proper recharge cycles

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify main power supply voltage is stable at the KRC4 controller input and check for loose power connections
  2. 2Allow the controller to run under main power for 24 hours to attempt battery recharge through the charging circuit
  3. 3Access the System Information in the KUKA smartPAD to confirm actual battery voltage reading and compare to specification sheet
  4. 4Inspect the backup battery connector inside the controller enclosure for corrosion or loose connections and clean if needed
  5. 5Replace the backup battery with an OEM KUKA replacement part if voltage does not recover after extended charging
  6. 6If replacement does not resolve the alarm, the charging circuit may be faulty and the power supply module should be replaced by authorized KUKA service
