Fanuc Alarm 413 - Servo LSI Overflow

LSI Overflow

Fanuc program alarm 413: LSI Overflow. The part program contains an error or illegal condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute. Correct the program to clear this alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 413 occurs when the position error register for the specified axis accumulates beyond 2^31 detection units, indicating a severe position tracking failure. This is typically caused by incorrect servo tuning parameters (CMR, position/velocity gains), mechanical binding, amplifier failure, or encoder feedback issues that prevent the axis from following commanded positions.

Safety

  • Incorrect parameters dangerous

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and record parameters 1815 (CMR), 1825 (position gain), 1826 (velocity loop gain 1st), 1827 (velocity loop gain 2nd) for the affected axis. Compare against OEM machine specifications or factory default values.

  2. 2

Check DIAGNOSIS > SERVO > screen 300-399 to view current position error (diagnosis 300) and servo load meter (diagnosis 436) for the affected axis during alarm condition or immediately after reset.

  3. 3

If CMR (parameter 1815) bit settings are incorrect for motor type (serial or pulse-coder), verify bit 1 (MCS), bit 2 (RSV), and bit 7 (RVS) match amplifier and motor specifications. Incorrect CMR can cause feedback polarity issues.

Changing parameter 1815 CMR requires power cycle and can cause unexpected axis motion. Ensure axis is clear before testing.

  4. 4

Reduce position loop gain (parameter 1825) to 50% of current value temporarily to test if alarm clears. If successful, gradually increase gain while monitoring position error until optimal tuning is achieved without alarm recurrence.

Call a technician if:

  • ·Hardware component replacement required
  • ·Servo tuning produces unstable results
  • ·Multiple axes affected simultaneously

Prevention

  • Regular servo parameter backup
  • Periodic mechanical inspection and lubrication
  • Monitor servo load percentages during operation
  • Maintain proper encoder cable routing and protection

Common Mistakes

  • Changing multiple servo parameters simultaneously
  • Ignoring mechanical binding issues
  • Incorrect CMR calculations
  • Not backing up parameters before tuning
