Fanuc Alarm 416 - Servo Disconnection Detected
Alarm 416 indicates a loss of communication between the CNC and the pulse coder (encoder) on the specified axis. This is typically caused by physical disconnection, cable damage, or pulse coder failure. The servo amplifier cannot receive position feedback, triggering an immediate alarm to prevent uncontrolled motion.
Fanuc Alarm 416 - Servo Disconnection Detected
Disconnection Alarm
Fanuc servo alarm 416: Disconnection Alarm. The servo system has detected a fault condition on the specified axis. Check the Fanuc diagnosis screen (DGN 200, 204) for the specific sub-alarm code.

Safety
Causes and Fixes
Check DIAGNOSIS screen > [SYSTEM] > [SERVO] > Diagnostic 201 (or #201) for the affected axis. Look for status bits indicating cable disconnection or signal loss (typically shows as 0000 or abnormal values for pulse coder feedback).
Power OFF the CNC system. Inspect the pulse coder cable from motor to amplifier. Check connector security at both motor-side (typically M12 or M23 connector) and amplifier-side JD1A/JD1B connectors. Look for bent pins, corrosion, or cable shield damage.
Ensure power is OFF before disconnecting any pulse coder cables to prevent damage to encoder circuits.
Perform cable continuity test using a multimeter on all pulse coder signal lines (A+, A-, B+, B-, Z+, Z-, shield). Compare readings with Fanuc Connection Manual for your amplifier series (αi, βi, or αis). Replace cable if any open circuits detected.
Check servo amplifier LED display. A 'dC' (disconnection) or flashing alarm LED indicates loss of encoder feedback. After cable repair, clear alarms and perform a controlled axis movement test in JOG mode at low feedrate (F10-50).
