Fanuc Alarm 419 - SERVO ALARM: n-TH AXIS EXCESS ERROR AT STOP

SERVO ALARM: n-TH AXIS EXCESS ERROR AT STOP

The servo position error exceeded the limit when the axis was at stop. Check for mechanical binding or servo gain issues.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 419 occurs when the position deviation (error between commanded and actual position) exceeds Parameter 1826 (In-Position Check Width) while the axis is commanded to be stationary. This indicates mechanical binding, excessive friction, external forces on the axis, or improper servo gain settings preventing the servo from maintaining position within tolerance.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power off the machine and manually check axis movement. Disconnect the motor from the ballscrew (remove coupling) and rotate the ballscrew by hand to detect binding, roughness, or abnormal resistance. Check way covers for debris or collision damage.

Lockout/tagout required. Verify all stored energy is released before disconnecting coupling.

  2. 2

Check DIAGNOSIS screen > Servo > Position Deviation (D-number varies by series: typically #300-#307 for each axis). Note the deviation value when alarm occurred. Compare to Parameter 1826 (In-Position Check Width) - deviation exceeded this value.

  3. 3

Inspect ballscrew bearings, ballnut, and coupling for wear or damage. Check gibs and way lubrication. Verify lubrication system is functioning (check DIAGNOSIS > PMC for lube-related signals). Address any mechanical issues found.

  4. 4

After mechanical repair, perform a controlled jog test at low feedrate (10% rapid override). Monitor position deviation on DIAGNOSIS screen during movement and at stop. Deviation should settle to near zero within in-position tolerance.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·Servo amplifier module replacement needed
  • ·Mechanical repairs beyond basic maintenance
  • ·Auto-tuning fails repeatedly

Prevention

  • Regular lubrication maintenance
  • Keep encoder areas clean
  • Monitor servo parameters during preventive maintenance
  • Check mechanical backlash periodically

Common Mistakes

  • Adjusting servo gains without fixing mechanical issues first
  • Ignoring encoder signal quality
  • Setting position error limits too high to mask problems
  • Not backing up parameters before changes
