Fanuc Alarm 425 - SERVO ALARM: n AXIS EXCESS ERROR AT READY OFF

SERVO ALARM: n AXIS EXCESS ERROR AT READY OFF

Fanuc servo alarm 425: SERVO ALARM: n AXIS EXCESS ERROR AT READY OFF. The servo system has detected a fault condition on the specified axis. Check the Fanuc diagnosis screen (DGN 200, 204) for the specific sub-alarm code.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 425 occurs when the position error for the specified axis exceeds the allowable limit (Parameter 1828) while the servo ready signal is OFF. This typically indicates mechanical binding, excessive load, encoder feedback issues, or improper servo parameter settings that prevent the axis from maintaining position during servo-off conditions or power cycling.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to DIAGNOSIS > SERVO > screen and observe the current position error for the affected axis. Record the magnitude of the error value.

  2. 2

Manually move the axis with servo power OFF (emergency stop active or via MPG in handle mode). Check for abnormal resistance, grinding, or binding throughout the entire axis travel range.

Ensure machine is in safe state and all personnel are clear before manual movement

  3. 3

Inspect ballscrew, linear guides, way covers, and coupling for crash damage, debris, insufficient lubrication, or loose mounting bolts. Check brake operation if axis is vertical.

  4. 4

If external load is suspected, disconnect the motor from the ballscrew coupling and rotate motor shaft manually to verify motor and encoder are free. If motor is free, issue is mechanical on machine side.

Tag and document coupling alignment before disassembly for reassembly reference

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Amplifier replacement required
  • ·Encoder replacement needed
  • ·Ball screw mechanical repair
  • ·Electrical measurements exceed safe skill level

Prevention

  • Regular way cleaning and lubrication
  • Periodic encoder cable inspection
  • Monitor position error trends
  • Verify parameter backups before changes

Common Mistakes

  • Setting P1828 too high to mask mechanical problems
  • Ignoring gradual position error increases
  • Not checking both electrical and mechanical causes
  • Swapping components without proper documentation
