Okuma OSP Alarm A 8616 - Coolant level low

Coolant level low

A coolant tank level float switch dropped out during a coolant command, telling the control the tank is too low to keep supplying coolant. Running on would starve the pump and the cutting zone, so the cycle is stopped.

Common Causes

  • Coolant tank genuinely low from evaporation, leaks or carry-off on parts and chips
  • Float switch in the coolant tank stuck, fouled with sludge or faulty
  • High-pressure through-spindle coolant tank low (codes 2 and 3)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Main coolant tank level is low; code 2 = Through-spindle (oil hole) coolant tank level is low; code 3 = High-pressure through-spindle coolant tank level is low
  2. 2Read the code: 1 = main coolant tank, 2 = through-spindle coolant tank, 3 = high-pressure through-spindle tank, and open that tank.
  3. 3Top up the tank with the correct coolant mixture as the manual directs and confirm the float switch rises and the alarm clears.
  4. 4If the tank is actually full, free the float switch from sludge or chips and verify its signal changes state when moved by hand.
  5. 5Look for leaks in the tank, pump suction hose and machine bed that are draining the level faster than normal, and repair them.
