Okuma OSP Alarm A 8629 - Spindlehead lubricant pressure low

Spindlehead lubricant pressure low

The control detected that lubricating oil is not reaching the spindlehead properly. The pressure switch inside the spindlehead or combination unit either dropped the lubricant-supply-normal signal or raised the lubricant-supply-error signal. Depending on the code, the fault may instead be a low oil level in the spindle or M-spindle coolant tank detected by its level switch while the cooling unit was running.

Common Causes

  • Low oil level in the spindle coolant tank or M-spindle coolant tank (level switch held OFF)
  • Faulty or sticking tank oil level switch
  • Lubricant pressure switch in the spindlehead or combination unit defective or misadjusted
  • Lubrication pump not delivering oil, clogged filter, or leaking/blocked lube line to the spindlehead

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = M-spindle coolant tank oil level switch stayed OFF longer than the preset time while the M-spindle cooling unit was running; code 1 = Spindle coolant tank oil level switch stayed OFF longer than the preset time while the spindle cooling unit was running
  2. 2Read the code shown with the alarm. Code 1: check the spindle coolant tank oil level. No code: check the M-spindle coolant tank oil level.
  3. 3Top up the indicated tank with the specified oil if the level is low, then confirm the level switch changes state as the tank fills.
  4. 4If the tank is full but the level switch still reads OFF, test the level switch float for free movement and check its wiring and connector at the tank.
  5. 5If the level is correct, verify the lubrication pump runs and delivers oil: inspect the lube filter for clogging and the lines to the spindlehead for kinks or leaks.
  6. 6Check the lubricant pressure switch in the spindlehead/combination unit and its signal wiring; replace the switch if it does not change state under normal pressure.
  7. 7If the alarm persists after these checks, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
