Okuma OSP Alarm A 8649 - Measurement sensor unit interlock

Measurement sensor unit interlock

A command to advance the measurement sensor unit was issued while advance was not permitted, or the permitted state was lost during the move. The control interlocks the sensor to prevent crashing the probe into the workpiece, chuck, or turret.

Common Causes

  • Advance commanded with a tool other than the sensor-advance-permission tool selected
  • Z-axis not on the plus variable limit, sensor head not retracted, or spindle/M-spindle still rotating
  • Front door open with door interlock off, robot/loader not retracted, or APC arm not retracted

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Advance commanded when present tool is not the sensor advance permission tool; code 2 = Advance commanded when Z-axis is not on plus variable limit; code 3 = Advance commanded when sensor head is not in retract position; code 4 = Advance commanded when spindle is not stopped; code 5 = Advance commanded when M-spindle is not stopped; code 6 = Advance commanded with door interlock off and front door not closed; code 7 = Advance commanded when robot/loader is not in retract position; code 8 = Advance commanded when APC arm is not in retract position
  2. 2Read the code to find the blocking condition: 1 wrong tool, 2 Z-axis not on plus variable limit, 3 sensor head not in retract position, 4 spindle not stopped, 5 M-spindle not stopped, 6 front door not closed with door interlock off, 7 robot/loader not retracted, 8 APC arm not retracted.
  3. 3For code 1, index to the tool that is designated as the measurement sensor advance permission tool before commanding the advance.
  4. 4For code 2, move the Z-axis to the plus variable limit position first; for code 3, retract the sensor head fully and confirm the retract switch.
  5. 5For codes 4 and 5, stop the spindle and M-spindle completely and confirm zero speed before advancing the sensor.
  6. 6For codes 6-8, close the front door (or restore door interlock), retract the robot/loader, and retract the APC arm, then retry the advance.
