Okuma OSP Alarm A 8622 - Hydraulic unit oil level low

Hydraulic unit oil level low

The hydraulic unit oil level switch reports that the tank level is low: the level normal signal stayed off for more than 3 seconds. The machine stops because running the hydraulic pump with low oil will damage the pump and starve the hydraulics.

Common Causes

  • Hydraulic tank oil level genuinely low from leaks or evaporation
  • Faulty oil level float switch in the hydraulic tank
  • Wiring or connector fault on the level normal signal line
  • Oil leak at hose, fitting or cylinder draining the tank

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = The oil level normal signal stayed OFF for more than 3 seconds.
  2. 2Read the code shown on the alarm screen; code 1 means the oil level normal signal stayed OFF for more than 3 seconds, confirming a low-level detection rather than a momentary dip.
  3. 3Open the hydraulic unit tank sight glass or dipstick and confirm the actual oil level; if low, inspect around the tank, hoses, fittings and cylinders for the leak point before refilling.
  4. 4Top up the hydraulic unit with the specified hydraulic oil to the correct level mark, as directed by the manual's measure to supply hydraulic unit oil.
  5. 5If the level is actually normal but the alarm persists, test the float level switch in the tank for free movement and continuity, and inspect its connector and wiring back to the input.
  6. 6Run the hydraulic pump and watch the level switch signal on the input monitor to confirm it stays ON for more than 3 seconds without fluttering.
