Okuma OSP Alarm A 8623 - Mist air lubrication unit

Mist air lubrication unit

The control detected a fault in the oil mist lubrication system serving the AT/OM circuit or the M spindle. Depending on the code, the oil drop sensor never saw oil, stayed on too long, the oil level signal was lost, or the misting air pressure signal dropped while the pump air output was on. Left uncorrected the M spindle or turret tooling runs without lubrication.

Common Causes

  • Empty or low oil in the mist lubrication unit reservoir (oil level normal signal OFF)
  • Faulty or contaminated oil drop sensor, or oil line blockage preventing drops
  • Low or lost shop air pressure to the mist unit (pressure normal signal OFF)
  • Stuck sensor giving a continuous ON signal, or failed pump/solenoid in the mist unit

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = AT/OM oil drop sensor stayed ON longer than 2 seconds; code 2 = AT/OM oil drop sensor never turned ON across two consecutive pump air cycles; code 3 = At power-up the AT/OM pump air cycle repeated 100 times without three consecutive drop detections; code 4 = AT/OM air ON output ran over 24 cumulative hours with the oil level normal signal OFF; code 5 = AT/OM misting air pressure normal signal went OFF while the pump air output was ON; code 6 = M spindle oil mist drop sensor stayed ON longer than 2 seconds; code 7 = M spindle oil mist drop sensor never turned ON across two consecutive pump air cycles; code 8 = At power-up the M spindle pump air cycle repeated 100 times without three consecutive drop detections
  2. 2Read the code on the alarm screen to identify which circuit and failure: codes 1-5 are the AT/OM lubrication side, codes 6-10 are the M spindle oil mist side.
  3. 3Codes 1/6 (drop sensor ON over 2 s): check the oil drop sensor for a stuck contact, swarf or oil film holding it on, and inspect its wiring for a short.
  4. 4Codes 2/7 (no drop detected for two air cycles) and 3/8 (100 retries without three consecutive detections): check the reservoir oil level, confirm the oil line and nozzle are not clogged, and verify the pump actually delivers oil during an air ON cycle.
  5. 5Codes 4/9 (24 h cumulative air ON with oil level signal OFF): top up the mist unit oil and check the oil level switch/float and its input signal.
  6. 6Codes 5/10 (air pressure normal signal OFF during air ON): check shop air supply, the regulator/filter feeding the mist unit, and the air pressure switch and its wiring.
  7. 7If the alarm returns after oil, air and sensor checks, record the alarm number and code and contact Okuma service.
