Okuma OSP Alarm A 8618 - M spindle overload

M spindle overload

The M spindle load detection meter relay tripped because the M spindle drew excessive load. This means the milling spindle is being overloaded by the cut, or the load detection relay or its startup immunity setting is incorrect.

Common Causes

  • Cutting with excessive load on the M spindle (depth of cut, feed, or dull tool)
  • Incorrect setting of the M spindle load detection meter relay
  • Startup current immune period set too short in the "M Spindle overload time" machine user parameter

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Reduce the cutting load on the M spindle: lighten depth of cut or feed rate and check the tool for wear or damage.
  2. 2Verify the M spindle load detection meter relay is set correctly for the spindle's normal operating current.
  3. 3Check the "M Spindle overload time" machine user parameter and lengthen the startup current immune period if the relay trips during spindle acceleration.
  4. 4If the alarm persists with normal cutting loads and correct settings, record the alarm number and contact Okuma service.
