Okuma OSP Alarm A 8594 - Sensor overstroke

Sensor overstroke

A gauging sensor was driven into an overstroke condition: the X-axis gauging sensor (no code shown) or the Z-axis gauging sensor (code 1) travelled past its allowed measuring stroke. The sensor may be damaged if driven further, so the control stops the motion.

Common Causes

  • Gauging target or approach position programmed beyond the X-axis or Z-axis sensor's stroke
  • Workpiece missing or misplaced so the X-axis or Z-axis gauging sensor never contacts and overtravels
  • Sensor stylus or mounting damaged changing the effective stroke of the gauging sensor
  • Wrong gauging direction commanded for the part geometry on the X-axis or Z-axis

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = X-axis gauging sensor in overstroke condition.; code 1 = Z-axis gauging sensor in overstroke condition.
  2. 2Read the code: no code means the X-axis gauging sensor is in overstroke; code 1 means the Z-axis gauging sensor is in overstroke, so you know which sensor axis to inspect.
  3. 3Check that the workpiece is present and correctly positioned for the gauging move; a missing or shifted part lets the X-axis or Z-axis sensor travel to overstroke looking for contact.
  4. 4Review the gauging program's target and approach positions on the X-axis or Z-axis named by the code and bring them inside that sensor's rated stroke.
  5. 5Inspect the gauging sensor stylus and mounting on the overstroke axis for damage or looseness that would shift the contact point.
  6. 6Re-run the X-axis or Z-axis gauging cycle in single block with reduced feed and confirm the sensor contacts the workpiece before reaching overstroke.
