Okuma OSP Alarm A 8538 - ATC shutter barrier area

ATC shutter barrier area

The turret moved into the interference zone between the ATC shutter and the machine cover while the ATC shutter was still open. The control blocks this because the turret could collide with the shutter or cover. The code tells you which side of the interference position was violated.

Common Causes

  • Operator jogged or programmed the turret into the shutter interference zone with the shutter open
  • ATC shutter close confirmation limit switch faulty or misadjusted, so the control thinks the shutter is open
  • ATC shutter did not fully close (air supply, obstruction, or shutter mechanism problem)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Turret entered the interference zone on the minus side of the ATC shutter interference position while the shutter was open; code 2 = Turret entered the interference zone on the plus side of the ATC shutter interference position while the shutter was open
  2. 2Read the code on screen: Code 1 means the turret entered the interference position(-) side; Code 2 means the interference position(+) side.
  3. 3Reset the alarm.
  4. 4Using the pulse handle, move the turret away from the violated interference position (the + side for Code 2, the - side for Code 1), or close the ATC shutter first and then move the turret.
  5. 5Verify the ATC shutter actually closes fully and that the shutter close confirmation limit switch changes state when it does; adjust or replace the switch if it does not.
  6. 6If the shutter will not close, check for obstructions in the shutter track and confirm air/actuator operation before retrying.
