Okuma OSP Alarm A 8509 - Cutting feed interlock

Cutting feed interlock

A cutting feed command was executed while the machine was not in a state that permits cutting, or a required permission condition dropped out while feed was already in progress. The blocked conditions concern the MacTurn H1 turret L-tool/M-tool spindle clamp state, ATC tool presence, and turret curvic clamp confirmation.

Common Causes

  • Cutting feed commanded with an L-tool or sensor registered as the present tool while the M-tool spindle clamp angle was not at 0 or 180 degrees
  • ATC machine: feed commanded with no tool loaded (no-tool signal ON), or the no-tool signal came on during feed
  • H1 turret: M-tool spindle not clamped, or its clamp confirmation input dropped during feed
  • H1 turret: turret not curvic clamped, or curvic clamp confirmation dropped during feed
  • Feed commanded with a long boring bar mounted but no auxiliary tool mounted in turret H1

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = MacTurn H1 L-tool spec: feed commanded while M-tool spindle clamp angle was not 0 or 180 with an L-tool or sensor registered as present tool; code 1 = ATC spec: feed commanded with no tool loaded (no-tool signal ON); code 2 = ATC spec: no-tool signal turned ON during cutting feed; code 3 = H1 turret spec: feed commanded with M-tool spindle not clamped; code 4 = H1 turret spec: M-tool spindle clamp confirmation turned OFF during cutting feed; code 5 = H1 turret spec: feed commanded with turret not curvic clamped; code 6 = H1 turret spec: turret curvic clamp confirmation turned OFF during cutting feed; code 7 = Feed commanded with a long boring bar mounted and no auxiliary tool mounted in turret H1
  2. 2Read the alarm code: no code = L-tool/sensor registered but M-tool spindle clamp angle not at 0 or 180; 1/2 = ATC no-tool condition; 3/4 = M-tool spindle clamp; 5/6 = turret curvic clamp; 7 = long boring bar without auxiliary tool.
  3. 3No code: index the M-tool spindle to clamp angle 0 or 180 before commanding cutting feed with an L-tool or sensor as the present tool; do not program feed at any other clamp angle.
  4. 4Code 1 or 2: check tool presence in the spindle and the no-tool signal wiring/switch; if the signal came on mid-cut, inspect the tool clamp confirmation switch and its connector for intermittent contact.
  5. 5Code 3 or 4: check the state of the M-tool spindle clamp confirmation input; verify the clamp limit switch actuates fully and the input stays steady through the clamp cycle.
  6. 6Code 5 or 6: check the turret clamp/unclamp confirmation input; confirm the curvic coupling seats completely and the clamp confirmation switch is made before feeding.
  7. 7Code 7: mount the required auxiliary tool in turret H1 before cutting with the long boring bar, then retry the feed command.
