Okuma OSP Alarm C 3706 - Spindle lube pressure

Spindle lube pressure

The spindle lubrication oil pressure dropped and stayed low for more than 2 seconds, or the lube oil level lower-limit switch stayed OFF for 2 seconds or longer. The control does not monitor this for the first 8 seconds after a reset. The code identifies which spindle's lube system is at fault.

Common Causes

  • Low oil level in the spindle lubrication tank
  • Defective spindle lubrication pump not building pressure
  • Defective pressure switch or level lower-limit switch
  • Clogged lube line or filter starving the spindle

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = Main spindle lube oil level lower-limit switch OFF for 2 s or more; code 1 = 2nd spindle lube oil level lower-limit switch OFF for 2 s or more; code 2 = M-spindle lube oil level lower-limit switch OFF for 2 s or more
  2. 2Read the code: no code = main spindle, 1 = 2nd spindle, 2 = M-spindle lube system. Work on that unit.
  3. 3Check the oil level in that spindle's lubrication tank and top up with the specified oil if low.
  4. 4Run the lube pump and confirm it actually delivers oil and builds pressure; listen for the pump and watch for flow at the distribution point.
  5. 5If the pump runs and oil level is good, test the pressure switch / level lower-limit switch and its wiring for a stuck or failed contact.
  6. 6Inspect the lube lines and filter for kinks or blockage between pump and spindle.
  7. 7If the alarm returns after these checks, record the alarm number and code and contact Okuma service.
