Okuma OSP Alarm C 3714 - ZA-axis overload

ZA-axis overload

The Z-axis of the A turret stayed above the overload limit set on its load detection meter relay longer than the allowed time, so the control stopped it to protect the axis drive and ballscrew. Detection is only active in program blocks between the overload detection ON (M135) and OFF (M134) commands.

Common Causes

  • Depth of cut or feedrate too heavy in the ZA cutting blocks between M135 and M134
  • Dull or chipped tool pushing ZA-axis cutting load above the relay setting
  • Overload limit on the ZA load detection meter relay set too low for the operation
  • Mechanical drag on the ZA axis (way lubrication, chip packing) raising the load

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Identify the program section between the M135 (detection ON) and M134 (detection OFF) blocks where the alarm occurred and note which cut was running.
  2. 2Reduce the depth of cut and/or feedrate in that section so the ZA-axis load stays under the relay limit.
  3. 3Inspect the cutting tool used in those blocks for wear or chipping and replace it if dull.
  4. 4Check the ZA axis for mechanical drag: clear packed chips from the ways/covers and confirm lubrication is reaching the slideways.
  5. 5If the load is reasonable for the cut, verify the trip setting on the ZA load detection meter relay on the operation panel is appropriate before rerunning.
