Okuma OSP Alarm C 3730 - Coolant flow

Coolant flow

A coolant flow sensor did not turn ON within the flow monitor time after the coolant output was commanded, meaning coolant is not actually flowing to the indicated line. Depending on the code this covers standard coolant lines, turret coolant, high-pressure coolant, or oil mist flow.

Common Causes

  • Low coolant level in the tank starving the pump
  • Clogged or kinked coolant pipe or nozzle
  • Coolant discharge confirmation (flow) switch positioned incorrectly
  • Faulty flow sensor / discharge confirmation switch

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = Coolant flow sensor did not turn ON within the flow monitor time (supply sensor type); code 1 = Coolant 1 (1st or 2nd) did not flow within the parameter-set monitor time; code 2 = Coolant 2 (1st or 2nd) did not flow within the parameter-set monitor time; code 3 = Coolant 3 (1st or 2nd) did not flow within the parameter-set monitor time; code 4 = Coolant 4 did not flow within the coolant 4 flow alarm monitor time; code 5 = Coolant 1 flow switch stayed ON beyond the set time while coolant 1 output was OFF; code 6 = Coolant 2 flow switch stayed ON beyond the set time while coolant 2 output was OFF; code 7 = Coolant 3 flow switch stayed ON beyond the set time while coolant 3 output was OFF
  2. 2Read the code to identify the affected line: e.g. no code = coolant supply flow sensor; 1-7 = coolant 1/2/3 lines; 8/9 = A turret oil mist; 10/11 = A/B turret coolant; 12 = high-pressure coolant; 19/20 = turret upper/lower side; 21 = chip coolant.
  3. 3Check the coolant tank level and replenish if low, then run the coolant and visually confirm flow at the nozzle for the indicated line.
  4. 4Inspect the coolant pipe, filter, and nozzle on that line for clogging or kinks; clean or replace the pipe as the manual directs.
  5. 5Check the position of the coolant discharge confirmation (flow) switch and adjust it if it is not sensing the actual flow.
  6. 6Test the flow sensor by running coolant and watching its input change state; replace the discharge confirmation switch if it does not respond.
  7. 7For codes 5-7 (flow switch ON while the output is OFF), check for a stuck flow switch or leaking valve holding flow after shutoff.
