Okuma OSP Alarm C 3728 - Oil cooler level

Oil cooler level

The oil cooling unit for the spindle head or M-spindle reported a level error while the hydraulic unit actuating signal was being output. The cooling oil level is low or the level switch is not responding, risking inadequate spindle head cooling.

Common Causes

  • Low oil level in the spindle head oil cooling unit
  • Low oil level in the M-spindle oil cooling unit
  • Faulty or stuck level switch in the oil cooler unit
  • Wiring/connector fault on the level error input signal

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = 1st or 2nd spindle head oil cooler level error signal OFF over 1s while hydraulic unit actuating signal was output; code 1 = M-spindle head oil cooler level error signal OFF over 1s while hydraulic unit actuating signal was output; code 2 = Spindle oil cooler level low switch (I.0247) OFF longer than 2s
  2. 2Read the code: no code = 1st (or 2nd) spindle head oil cooler level error signal OFF over 1s during hydraulic unit operation; 1 = M-spindle head oil cooler level error; 2 = spindle oil cooler level low switch (I.0247) OFF over 2s.
  3. 3Check the oil level sight glass on the indicated cooling unit (spindle head or M-spindle) and top up with the specified oil if low; look for leaks around the unit and lines.
  4. 4Verify the level error input on the I/O check screen: NO.24 bit 7 iOCL/ for the 1st main spindle, NO.32 bit F i2OCL/ for the 2nd main spindle, NO.34 bit 9 iMOCLAL/ for the M-spindle.
  5. 5Actuate the float/level switch by hand and confirm the input changes state; if not, inspect the switch wiring and connector, then replace the level switch.
  6. 6If the level and switch are good but the alarm persists, record the alarm number and code and contact Okuma service.
