Okuma OSP Alarm C 3705 - Lube tank level

Lube tank level

The control detected a low oil condition in a lubrication tank — the low-level signal stayed on for 2 seconds or more. Depending on the code, this can be the slideway lube tank, an XS-axis tank, a steady rest supply, or a stuck upper/lower float switch.

Common Causes

  • Slideway lubrication oil level genuinely low
  • Float/level switch stuck or failed (lower or upper limit switch not changing state)
  • Restricted lube flow to slideways or steady rest
  • Air motor lubrication level signal off

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Slideway lube flow low or level low for 2 s or more (I/O NO.25 bit E iBOL); code 2 = Lower limit switch stayed OFF 2 s or more (CAM lathe: XS-axis tank level input ON over 2 s); code 3 = Upper limit switch stayed OFF 2 s or more; code 4 = Lower limit switch stayed OFF 2 s or more; code 5 = Lube tank level input (I/O NO.24 bit 4 iBOL) ON longer than 1 s; code 6 = Oil level lower limit switch (I/O NO.34 bit 0 iCOL) OFF 2 s or more; code 7 = XS-axis lube tank level input ON longer than 2 s; code 8 = Oil level lower limit switch OFF 2 s or more
  2. 2Read the code first: Code 1 (or 13) is the main slideway tank low signal (I/O check NO.25 INPUT bit E iBOL); Codes 5 and 7 point to the XS-axis tank; Code 10 is the steady rest; Code 9 is the air motor lubrication level.
  3. 3Check the oil level sight glass on the indicated tank and top up with the specified slideway lubrication oil — this is the manual's stated fix and the most common cause.
  4. 4If the tank is full but the alarm stays, watch the relevant input bit in I/O check (NO.25 bit E, NO.24 bit 4, or NO.34 bit 0 per the code) while moving the float by hand; a bit that never changes means a stuck float or failed switch.
  5. 5For Codes 2, 4, 6, 8, 11, 12 (limit switch held OFF/ON for 2 s), inspect the float switch wiring and connector at the tank before replacing the switch.
  6. 6Code 3 (upper limit switch OFF) after refilling suggests the upper float is stuck — free or replace it so overfill protection works.
